Event: Seminar on Sustainable Tourism Destination Management in Rural Areas of Mongolia
Date: September 19, 2026 (Saturday)
Venue: Gobi Museum of Nature and History, Dalanzadgad,
South Gobi Province, Mongolia
Organized by: Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)
Participants: Approximately 60
In cooperation with JICA, RSOAP supports Mongolia’s development in the tourism sector. At the seminar, we provided an overview of the Best Tourism Villages (BTV) initiative, a key focus of UN Tourism, as well as the International Year of Sustainable and Resilient Tourism (IYSRT) 2027.
Given that two villages in Mongolia are currently applying for BTV recognition, we also introduced examples of collaboration among BTVs, including a cooperation initiative on astrotourism in Portugal and the MoU signed between Miyama, Japan, and Jeju, Republic of Korea. In addition, we offered recommendations on how Mongolia could prepare and develop initiatives at the national level for IYSRT 2027.
Furthermore, we recommended the use of the Toolkit of Indicators for Projects (TIPs) , jointly developed by UN Tourism and JICA, in tourism projects that will be implemented in Mongolia in the future.
