UNWTO International Network of Sustainable Tourism Observatories (INSTO) 2019 Meeting

In September 28th, 2010, UNWTO signed the Agreement with Sun Yat-Sen University to set up the “Monitoring Centre for UNWTO Sustainable Tourism Observatories” to facilitate the establishing, managing and monitoring process of the existing and future sustainable tourism observatories in China.

This years Annual Conference was hosted in collaboration with the Department of Culture and Tourism of Anhui Province of China and Huangshan Municipal People’s Government. The theme of the annual conference of this year was “Culture and Tourism and Sustainable Development Goals”. There were close to 70 participants representing the 8 different tourism observatories and their municipal authorities including the Sun Yet University who host the MCSTO.

RSOAP was represented by Ms Alcinda Trawen, who delivered a presentation on Culture, Tourism and Sustainable Development Goals. She presented the case of events using the Gion Festival, Kyoto, Japan and Sepik River Crocodile Festival, Ambunti, Papua New Guinea as Case Studies to show the application of SDGs to Cultural Events as tourism attractions.
