The presentation was organized by JICA on January 25th, 2021. Previously JICA invites officers who are related to tourism sectors from developing countries for this course ‘Tourism Promotion & Marketing’. They come to Japan and learn about tourism marketing and promotion strategies with site visits. However, the situation under the Covid-19 pandemic has prevailed and JICA adapted by conducting this training remotely.

The lecture was recorded and presented via video. It went for 60 focusing on ‘Impacts of Covid-19 Pandemic on Tourism Sector and UNWTO Recovery Measures 19’. The topics that were covered in this lecture included:

  • Role & Work of UNWTO and RSOAP
  • COVID-19 Impact/Tourism Statistics
  • 2019-2020 Data comparisons
  • Travel restrictions
  • Restart scenarios
  • COVID-19 UNWTO Mitigation Measures (related to Promotion & Marketing Initiatives)
  • Global Restart Guidelines & Recovery Priorities
  • Domestic Tourism
  • Market Intelligence – Data Dashboards/statistics
  • Summary focusing on UNWTO Future Trends

The major outcome was that our office assisted contribute information on Impacts of Covid-19 Pandemic on Tourism Sector and UNWTO Recovery Measuresfor developing countries.

There were 13 participants from 12 different countries; Iraq (2), Afghanistan, Palestine, Egypt, Kenya, Zambia, Mauritius, Rwanda, Albania, North Macedonia, Tajikistan, Georgia.
