UN Tourism Regional Support Office for Asia and the Pacific (RSOAP) supports the promotion of sustainable tourism across Asia and the Pacific region. As part of these efforts, RSOAP organized a seminar on Promoting Practical Solution of Sustainable Tourism at Destination Level in Mongolia with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Date: 10th March 2026
Venue: Ulaanbaatar Hotel, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia
This seminar was held within the framework of the “Sustainable Tourism Project” launched by JICA in Mongolia in conjunction with “Mongolia Tourism Week 2026”, a government-led event co-hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, Tourism and Youth of Mongolia and the Mongolian Tourism Organization (MTO).
More than 350 participants attended the seminar, including representatives from government agencies, local authorities, tourism associations, tourism businesses, accommodation providers, tour guides, and travel agencies.
During the seminar, RSOAP presented global trends in sustainable tourism and introduced the “Best Tourism Villages by UN Tourism” initiative. Other speakers introduced the “Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals through Tourism – Toolkit of Indicators for Projects (TIPs)”, jointly developed by UN Tourism and JICA, as well as international certification systems such as GSTC and Green Destinations. In addition, findings from a current assessment on the status of international certification adoption in Mongolia were shared.
